Manuscript submission

Use these instructions if you are preparing a manuscript to submit to Business, Management and Education. All submissions should be made online at the website of the journal Please read the guidelines carefully before making a submission. To submit your article please register or log in yourself as an author and follow the instructions.


Business, Management and Education considers all manuscripts on the strict condition that the material submitted to the Journal must be original, must not have appeared in another publication and must not be submitted for publication elsewhere while under consideration by the Journal. The manuscript should contain nothing that is abusive, defamatory, libellous, obscene, fraudulent, or illegal. Authors who fail to adhere to these conditions will be charged with all costs that Business, Management and Education incurs in regard to processing their manuscript.

Any paper that has been previously published or is under review elsewhere will not be published in the Journal. 


There are no publication fees as it is funded by Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. The fee might be introduced in 2016 which will be posted here. 

Peer review,
criteria for acceptance and corrections

All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editor, and, if found suitable for further consideration, to peer review by independent, anonymous expert referees.

Using double-blind peer review system, neither reviewers’ nor author’s identities are revealed to the other party to ensure the quality of research published in the Journal. Manuscripts that are appropriate for the journal are reviewed by at least two experts in the field. Authors of manuscripts that were rejected during review process will be informed if the manuscript may be resubmitted after it is corrected according to given recommendations. If your manuscript has been previously submitted elsewhere, please ensure that it follows the guidelines of this journal. The final decision to accept or reject the manuscript will also be sent to the corresponding author along with any recommendations made by the referees.

Please pay attention to the following information before submitting a manuscript:

Topic and content of the manuscript must fit the aims and scope of Business, Management and Education must report original research

The Journal uses CrossCheck™ software to screen manuscripts for originality. By submitting your manuscript to Business, Management and Education you are agreeing to any necessary originality checks your manuscript may have to undergo during the peer-review and production processes. 

All authors of a manuscript should include their full names, affiliations, postal addresses and email addresses on the cover page of the manuscript. One author should be identified as the corresponding author. Please give the affiliation where the research was conducted. 

Structure and technical requirements of the manuscript should be adjusted to the requirements of Business, Management and Education which can be found in the template of the Journal and in the section Technical requirements for a manuscript.

TEMPLATE – the template should be used for the preparation of the manuscript.

The language of the manuscript submitted for consideration for possible publication will be evaluated by our editors to decide if it is of sufficient quality. It is strongly recommended to have your manuscript checked by a native speaker or an English language specialist before submission, in order to ensure that the language is acceptable.

Please note that manuscripts that greatly exceed the recommended length (40000 characters with spaces) of the article will be critically reviewed with respect to this fact.

Acknowledgements, funding, disclosure statement, contribution and biographical note(s) should be provided in a separate file in order to ensure author anonymity. The information will be included in the manuscript after peer-review process. It should appear before the list of references.

Articles published in Business, Management and Education are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 (CC BY-NC 4.0) license, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original author and source are credited. The material cannot be used for commercial purposes.

To assure the integrity, dissemination, and protection against copyright infringement of published articles, you will be asked to assign an Agreement in Relation to Copyright with Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) Press.

Reproduction of copyrighted material

If you wish to include any material in your manuscript in which you do not hold copyright, you must obtain written permission from the copyright owner, prior to submission. Authors are required to secure a permission to reproduce any proprietary text, illustration, table, or other material, including data, audio, video, film stills, and any supplementary material proposed for submission. This applies to direct (verbatim or facsimile) reproduction as well as “derivative reproduction” (where you have created a new figure or table which derives substantially from a copyrighted source). Copies of permission letters should be sent with the manuscript upon submission to the editors. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.


Business, Management and Education is an open access journal. It is free for anybody to read and download, and to copy and disseminate for educational but not commercial purposes. Technical requirements for a manuscript

The structure of the manuscript should be organised as follows:

1) Title
2) Authors' names and surnames (a person responsible for correspondence should be indicated)
3) Name and address of their work place
4) Authors' e-mails
5) An abstract, the size of the abstract cannot be less than 1000 typographic signs and should summarize the major aspects of the entire paper:

a) the purpose or the question(s) investigated
b) the experimental design and methods used
c) the major findings including key quantitative results, or trends
d) a brief summary of the interpretations and conclusions

6) Keywords (6-10)
7) JEL classification must be provided. Choose JEL Classification Codes from the list
8) Introduction (context of the research should be established, the purpose and /or hypothesis that was investigated should be stated; as well as the main idea, actuality, novelty etc. of a the research should be clarified)
9) The main text should include:

a) previous research
b) methods and theoretical framework
c) results
d) discussion and interpretation of obtained results

10) Conclusions or generalization
11) List of references cannot be less than 30 items and must cover the period of recent five years.
12) A short biographical note about contributors at the end of the article (name, surname, academic title and scientific degree, duties, researcher's short biography and scientific interests).
13) Appendices may be added optionally.

The length
of the manuscript should not be less than 12 pages and cannot exceed 20 pages in Microsoft Word (approximately 40000 characters (with spaces)). Abstracts of 1000 typographic signs are required for all manuscripts submitted. Each manuscript should have 6 to 10 keywords.

Section headings should be concise and numbered sequentially, using a decimal system for subsections. Please note, that Introduction, Conclusions, References are not numbered.

Manuscripts are accepted in English. British English spelling and punctuation is preferred. Please use double quotation marks, except where “a quotation is ‘within’ a quotation”. Long quotations of 100 words or more should be indented without quotation marks.

Formulas, equations and their components presented in the text must be written in Equation Editor. The size of basic symbols in equations should correspond to the letter size of the main text –10.5 pt, indexes should be in 7 pt, sub-indexes – 6 pt. For more details see the template of the Journal.

All figures and tables must be placed and cited in the text in consecutive numerical order. Tables (refer with: Table 1, Table 2, etc.) should be presented as part of the text and should be editable (do not use any macros and screenshots for figures and tables). Please provide the highest quality figure format possible. The resolution of figures should be no less than 300 dpi (dots per inch). If the size of the final file is too large (more than 10 MB), then the manuscript should contain the figures with minimised resolution, and the original figures must be provided in separate files (formats are indicated below). The file name for the graphics should include their short description (e.g. Fig. 1, Fig. 2a). Figures and tables should follow the requirements:

  • Tables: font – Times New Roman 9.5 pt, line thickness – 0.5 pt, file formats – *.doc, *.docx. 
  •  Photos and scanned images: resolution – no less than 300 dpi, file formats – *.jpg, *.tiff.
  • Diagrams, charts and schemes: font – Times New Roman from 5 to 8 pt, line thickness – from 0.3 to 2 pt, file formats – *.pdf, *.eps, *.cdr, *.xls, *.xlsx, *.dwg.
  • The width of figures and tables should not exceed 130 mm.

Reference style. For your convenience you can use VGTU citation style on Mendeley (for detailed instructions see Should you choose another system, please follow the instructions below.

The Journal uses the Harvard (surname and year of publication) short reference system for citations in the text with a detailed alphabetical list at the end of the paper. Please ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list and vice versa. Please check if all names and surnames of the authors, also the details (title, year, volume, pages, etc.) in the list of references are correct.

If the sources have more than two researchers, only the surname of the first author should be indicated (e.g. Burkart et al. 2012). In case the list of references includes persons bearing the same surnames, the first letter of the author’s name should be indicated, e.g. (Edwards, M. R., Edwards, T. 2013). Sources of the same author and the same year should be mentioned in the following way (Ulrich 2012a, 2012b). Follow reference requirements of the Journal when preparing your list of references:

  • A book with a single author (see Greene 2012): publishing house and city must be indicated;
  • A book with two authors (see Cullen, Praveen Parboteeah 2011): publishing house and city must be indicated;
  • Conference proceedings (see Gawer 2012): date (day and month) and place (city and country) must be indicated;
  • Thesis or dissertation (see Virtanen 2011);
  • Chapters or parts of edited works included in collections or textbooks (see Agrawal, Knoeber 2012);
  • Journal articles (see MacNab, Worthley 2013; Edwards, M. R., Edwards, T. 2013; Ulrich 2012a, 2012b): volume, issue and page numbers must be indicated;
  • Internet documents (see ENISA 2010): working direct link to the source cited and the date of citation (day, month, year) must be indicated;
  • Standards (LST EN 590:2009+A1:2010 or BS 6349-1:2000): abbreviation, number, year, title must be indicated;
  • Non-book and other formats (see Frontier Economics 2011).

Please note that an en-dash (–) should be used to connect values in a range, i.e. page numbers (125–146), date (17–18 August), etc. Please use the transliterated (not translated) version of the names and sources in Cyrillic (Beliatynskii et al. 2011). For papers published in the journals available in two or more languages, please give the English citation first, followed by the original language citation.
